FAQs

Can I join Enchiriadis?

At present, we have a full complement of Sopranos and Altos but we are actively seeking additional Tenors and Bases. So if your voice is in any of those ranges we would be delighted to welcome you on board. Just fill out and send the contact form and we will get back to you promptly. As Soprano and Alto spaces become available, we will post updates to the website so watch this space.

Do I need to audition?

No. Even though, thanks to our inspirational Director, we reach a high standard of  performance we are not an audition choir. All you need to bring is an enthusiasm for singing and a commitment to attend rehearsals.

What is the annual membership fee?

€140 per year for an individual membership. €250 per year for a couple.

How do I know what range my voice fits?

A simple rule of thumb is for women, sopranos can sing the higher notes and altos are more comfortable with lower notes. Likewise, for men, tenors sing higher notes than bases. If you would like a rough idea of where your voice range lies there is a useful website

https://www.tonegym.co/tool/item?id=vocal-range-test-tool which lets you test your voice Online.

Where and  when do you rehearse?

We rehearse every Thursday from 7.30 to 10.00pm approx. in Malahide Community School, Broomfield, K36 PR28. We also have a small number of Saturday rehearsals in the run up to concerts. These usually run from 10am to 2pm with a break for lunch.

Do I have to attend every rehearsal?

No. We understand that our members will sometimes have commitments that prevent them attending rehearsals. What we do ask is that you commit to attending as often as possible and to ensure you are fully prepared if you are to participate in our concerts.

How many concerts do you do each year?

This varies but we always have a summer concert at the end of May and a Christmas Concert in mid-December. We sometimes also do additional performances such as collaborations with other choirs or special concerts of our own. In Nov 2025, for example we plan to add a performance of The Messiah to our schedule.

You mention social activities on your info page– what does this involve?

Enchiriadias not only loves to deliver accomplished and enjoyable concert performances, we also like to foster friendship and camaraderie among our members through a range of entirely optional social activities. These comprise end of year barbeques and Christmas events. We also go on bi annual choir trips where we combine performance in some interesting and historic venues with socialising and sightseeing. In 2023, we went to Granada and Seville and in 2025 we are going to Malta.
